HATY Swimming

Hatboro Area YMCA Competitive Swim Team

USA Swimming

Welcome to the exciting world of swimming! By joining USA Swimming, your child has become a member of one of the country's largest, most organized, and competently coached youth sports. This section has been prepared with the goal of acquainting you with the sport of competitive swimming. It contains information that will help you and your family to get the most out of participating in age group swimming. With a positive attitude and a willingness to lend a hand, you will also have a great impact on your child's athletic environment, and his or her love of swimming.

There are many benefits to participating in the sport of swimming:

  • Meeting terrific people. Many swimming buddies become lifelong friends.
  • Beneficial exercise for cardiovascular and overall fitness.
  • Life skills. These include time management, self-discipline and sportsmanship.
  • Fun! Age group swimming can be fun, exciting and rewarding.

Remember that not every swimmer becomes a world record holder, but everyone can gain from his or her swimming experience!

HATY Swimming is encouraging it's swimmers that are close to or under the YMCA East Field District time standard - for their age group - to consider joining USA Swimming.  This is completely optional.

One of the benefits of joining USA Swimming is the additional opportunities for competition.  During the short course season there are usually an additional 4 - 5 opportunities to compete each month. We suggest taking advantage of these opportunities once or twice a month - dependant upon what point in the season we are.

During the beginning of the season, starting in September and continuing through the mid point of the season, a swimmer can usually pick and choose how many additional opportunities they may want to participate in.

As the season progresses, swimmers will need to be aware of the impact of additional competition and how it may relate towards their individual training schedule as they head into late season competition (Districts, States and Nationals)

Starting late in January it will be important to be sure you have the input of your swimmer's coach prior to swimming at a USA Swimming meet to be sure that it doesn't interfere with your swimmers training program.

Please Note:

YMCA Penn-Del Swimming League dual meets are always the first priority and must not be overlooked due to a USA Swimming meet.

Penn-Del Swimming League dual meets are held on Saturdays starting late November and wrap up in late January.
