FINA has recently adopted a new rule on swimming
suits that is much more restrictive than any previous rules.
This rule change goes into effect for FINA, and thus also for
USA Swimming in 2010.
Because this change would occur in the middle of
the PennDel League season, the PennDel League Board of Directors
has decided to implement this new swimming suit rule effective
for the entire 2009-10 season.
Because the details of the FINA rule are still
under development (e.g. the definition of textile), there may be
some changes or adjustments to this rule before it goes into
effect for USA Swimming in 2010. However, the rule as written
should be adequate for use by the PennDel League. The
restrictions on swimming suits for competition in PennDel
Swimming League dual and championship meets are as follows:
MATERIAL The material of
the swimsuits will definitively be constituted only by textile
fabric(s). The definition of textile currently is: Material
consisting of, natural and/or synthetic, individual and non
consolidated yarns used to constitute a fabric by weaving,
knitting, and/or braiding.
SHAPE For men, the
swimsuit shall not extend above the navel nor below the knee,
and for women, shall not cover the neck, extend past the
shoulder, nor extend below knee. Furthermore, no zippers or
other fastening system is allowed.
USE The swimmer can only
wear one swimsuit and no taping is allowed.
CONSEQUENCE - If the
PennDel referee observes a suit violation or if a suit violation
is brought to the attention of the referee, and confirmed all
events swum by the swimmer in a unapproved suit will be marked
unofficial and cannot be used to qualify for any PennDel time
qualifying meet.
